It represented a major departure from its predecessors, introducing a new platform, a more rigid body and a new 2.0-litre turbocharged 4B11 MIVEC engine in place of the long-serving 4G63. The Evolution X also introduced Mitsubishi's advanced Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, integrating technologies including Active Centre Differential, Active Yaw Control, stability control and ABS to deliver exceptional traction and handling. Depending on the version and market, it was available with either a five-speed manual gearbox or Mitsubishi's new six-speed Twin Clutch SST transmission. Combining aggressive styling with sophisticated four-wheel-drive technology and turbocharged performance, the Evolution X continued the performance heritage established by earlier generations of the Lancer Evolution.
