Aquarium driftwood, sourced from naturally fallen or sustainably harvested tree branches and roots, is used to create natural-looking aquariums while enhancing environmental enrichment. Its irregular shapes and crevices provide ideal hiding spots for fish, shrimps, frogs, and other terrarium or semi-aquatic species, helping reduce stress and encourage natural behaviors. As the wood slowly releases tannins and humic substances, it gently lowers pH, supports mild antibacterial and antifungal effects, and contributes to replicating the natural habitats where many freshwater and amphibious species are found. Driftwood not only improves the health and well-being of aquarium inhabitants but also adds visual depth and a biologically stimulating environment. Adding wood to your aquarium will result in the release of humic substances, which will lower the pH of the aquarium water and act as an antibacterial and antifungal agent. It is widely accepted that it can act as a spawning trigger and can aid in the recovery of any fish damaged through stress or fighting. The wood may naturally float, but most will sink within 24 hours or so.
