Paranormal Activity 2 is a 2010 found-footage supernatural horror film that serves as both a prequel and sequel to the original. The story expands on the demonic history of Katie and her sister, Kristi, and follows Kristi's family as they are tormented by a demonic entity. Taking place two months before the events of the first film, Paranormal Activity 2 focuses on Katie's sister, Kristi Rey (Sprague Grayden), and her family in Carlsbad, California. A suspicious "break-in": Shortly after Kristi and her husband Dan (Brian Boland) bring their newborn son, Hunter, home, their house is mysteriously vandalized. Nothing is stolen, but the family decides to install security cameras throughout the house, which document the mounting paranormal activity. The haunting escalates: The strange occurrences begin to affect the whole family, including Dan's teenage daughter, Ali (Molly Ephraim), and their dog. The housekeeper, Martine, tries to cleanse the house but is fired by Dan. An ancient pact: After researching demonic possession, Ali discovers that the demon has haunted the women in her family for generations. The pact requires the soul of the first-born son, which turns out to be Hunter, and the demon can be transferred by blood. A shocking solution: To save his son, Dan learns how to transfer the demon to someone else. Against Ali's wishes, he performs a ritual to pass the demon from Kristi to Katie by burning a photograph. The tragic conclusion: Three weeks later, after the events of the first film, a possessed Katie arrives at the Rey home, kills Dan and Kristi, and takes baby Hunter with her. Ali returns from a school trip to find her family dead and a final message on the screen stating that Katie and Hunter's whereabouts are unknown.
