Jordan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Jordan Winery has been owned by the same family since 1972, taking good care of the 1200 acres that surround the iconic chateau built by Tom and Sally Jordan in 1974. Most of the land is left as wild habitat for the local wildlife with the vineyards certified as sustainable and the winery run almost entirely on solar energy. The family specialise in producing elegant French-style wines from classic varieties like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. This opulent Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from sixty prime blocks on the Jordan Winery estate and vineyards owned by their 13 partner growers in the Alexander Valley. Fruit from each block is vinified separately with a long 19 day maceration and fermentation in oak casks before the barrel blend is created. The young wine is then aged in French oak for 13 months with a mixture of half new barrels and half used barrels. Black cherries, pomegranate and cassis characterise the nose along with sweet licorice, winter spice and vanilla. On the palate there is a rich full body, firm tannins and well-developed structure as well as a bright streak of acidity that will help the wine age beautifully over the next decade or so. It can also be enjoyed now alongside hearty dishes like barbecued ribs, beef stews, or a prime steak served with fries.
